Never underestimate the importance of motivation in your workforce. Even the greatest plan will fail if the resources allocated to carry it out are less enthusiastic than the plan's creator. This is especially important when you are the only resource on a project. You need to be your own cheerleader and find a way to keep your interest and head in the game.
One key that I like to remind myself is that if you want what everyone else can't obtain, you have to be willing to do what your competition won't. Set goals realistic and obtainable in the short term. By celebrating the small wins along the way, you refuel your momentum to carry through the less exciting tasks at hand.
